Children who are hungry have a difficult time focusing in school and learning. To help address this concern, Fellowship Church has partnered with Central Elementary School in Grandville through the Backpack Buddies Program.
Throughout the school year, the staff and teachers at Central Elementary help identify the children they feel may be food insecure. The school provides free breakfast and lunch for the school week but to provide for weekend food needs we collect or purchase food, pack individual bags for each child, and deliver it to the school to be be placed in their backpacks. Each food bag contains two breakfast items, two entree items, two fruits, and three snacks. One entree each week is large enough for a family of four.
Thanks to the generous donations of time, food, and money by church members, this ministry has been going strong since 2009.
